How in the world???

I am going to try to not get worked up over this post. I have had so many mixed emotions over this whole thing since I first heard of it.... I am talking about the octuplets. My first question is... what doctor in his right mind, would transfer 6 embryos??? Those of us that have been through the IVF process know that most REs will not transfer more than 2 or 3 at a time because of the health risks that comes with having multiples. I think the Dr. should be in charge of taking care of each and every one of those babies including putting them through college.

Second, how in the HELL (pardon my language) did a woman on FOOD STAMPS and living with her MOTHER afford to do IVF that many times? I mean really??? Come on!! My husband and I both have good jobs and try to live within our means and we will be paying off our IVF for years to come.

Third: Those poor babies!! They didn't ask to be brought into the world this way, and to a mother who is not responsible enough to even know when enough is enough. Her first 6 kids are going to suffer now because there are 8 more mouths to feed. 14 kids are going to have to live off of the government and the kindness of others because their mother is a freakin idiot!!

I won't even get started on the grandmother and the home they have been living in.

I want to scream at someone. It just doesn't seem fair!! All I want is one healthy baby to love and care for... and this deranged woman gets 14 that she can't care for??? I keep trying to remind myself that it is not my place to judge and there must be a reason that this person has been blessed with 14 beautiful children that she can't afford to take care of. You have no idea how many times the thought of these babies has gotten me so worked up to the point of a near anxiety attack. Then today I ran across this... http://www.thenadyasulemanfamily.com/ the woman has the nerve to ask for donations!! It makes you wonder if that was her idea all along... maybe she'd get a TV deal and be the next John and Kate Plus 8.... maybe she'd get rich off of her pretty little babies and never have to work and could pay someone to take care of them for her. I took one look at those sweet babies and my heart just broke! It really just doesn't seem fair...

I KNOW! Jeff and I have jumped through an incredible amount of hoops, only to BARELY qualify to adopt. If we wanted to adopt an embryo we would be put through the same invasive homestudy process. Maybe if I went to this clinic we could have avoided all of this- for the right price.
She paid for it with a worker's comp settlement, by the way.
I am all for families (like that one on TLC- the Duggers?) who want a lot of kids and who take good care of them, and I don't think it is "crazy" to have lots of kids. But to pursue a pregnancy with such high risks? And to pay a great deal of money to bear more children when you aren't caring for the children you alreayd have? It seems to me like she needs mental help, not IVF, and her doctor should have recognized that.
I am refusing to watch any of her interviews because I think that paying attention to her only validates her illness and encourages others to pursue dangerous fertility treatments for fame.

Oh my goodness! I get so worked up about this also. It is a step back for everyone who has been through fertility treatments because people will always think of this nutty lady when they think of IVF which is NEVER done like this. I'm so sad that I couldn't carry and bring home ONE baby. =( She has some nerve. It isn't fair and I feel your pain.

I can't believe that woman. She makes me so angry, and I don't have the fertility issues to come from. I'm sorry that it's such an emotional issue for you. It really is unfair, though, for those of us who are responsible good parents who don't get to take their babies home.

(hugs)

My blood boils everytime I think about this woman. And forget the money it took to have these IVF treatments...how about the money for the plastic surgery? She is the most selfish woman I have ever seen and I really hope that they take those babies from her and place them where they will be taken care of by families that can provide for them (like so many of you). I already have three kids that I'm trying to support and I don't want to have to support them too. Okay, I've said my peace.

I watched an interview online with fertility doctors speculating on how she got this many. Most doctors won't implant more than four at a time, and it's getting more and more common to evaluate the quality of the eggs and sometimes only do one or two eggs. They were saying that cases of triplets are down dramatically, and they've even gotten to where they're mostly working with just twins. I don't know if she did IVF, did she ever say? They were saying that perhaps she'd been on fertility meds, and not been monitored as closely as she should have been. They said that most fertlity doctors, had they seen that many follicles, would have suggested something different. I think it's not only irresponsible of the doctor, but also of the patient. I don't think you can possibly give eight babies the attention they deserve, much less since there are six older children. The poor kids. That's all I can think.

Candi I agree 100% with you and dont think you are wrong for your frustration on the subject. I think you along with millions of other people feel like the doctors should take some responsibility in this because she obviously was not in her right mind.

My heart broke for each one of those children when I watched the special.
She should have been seeing a psychiatrist not a fertility doc.
I come from a large family, but my parents were NEVER on government aid, neither one of them had mental problems and they were both devoted to us. She has no husband, mental problems, finacial problems and should never been given the treatment.
I have no idea how she would pay for these children without an IVF, let alone with multiple IVFs. I think she's in it for the money. Which is sad because the children pay the real bill.

I couldn't agree with you more! It made me sick to my stomach to read the articles about this lady. My heart aches for all 14 of the children!!!

You know, I couldn't agree with you more! I loved how you worded everything so perfectly. I am not able to get my frustrations out like that. I made Jess come in and read your post. His response was, "She's a Prisbrey!"

What wouldn't surprise me is if she decides to auction them off. It would be a great way to make money, and considering that they filed for bankruptcy they could use it. I can feel your frustration!

I am so mad, I really agree with what you are saying. I can't think about it or I will just scream. I just don't get it!!!

I agree with you!!! I am so angry that she now has 14 kids. She's not even married and it really angers me. I don't watch any of the interviews with her either because I don't believe she deserves the attention she is getting for this, I think it is totally unfair to her children as well.
